Part 7 of 8:
Simply For The Love of Music - The History of Incubus
During the 2003 Lollapalooza tour, Incubus debuted
two new songs, "Megalomaniac" and "Pistola", causing quite a stir in
the online community. On September 4th, Incubus (as well as Tommy Lee,
Rob Zombie, Fieldy, Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker, Jerry Cantrell, Iann
Robinson, and Jacoby Shaddix) were featured on the new DVD released
by MTV's Popular Show "MTV Cribs". In October the band released the
live album of Lollapalooza, with with proceeds going to their Make Yourself
Foundation. The album contained an new unreleased song, titled; "Pistola."
After its release the band set out to play the 17th annual Bridge School
Benefit on October 25th and 26th at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain
View, CA. Neil Young has organized the annual concert, which aides the
Bridge School in its outreach to children with severe speech and physical
impairments. Incubus performed the acoustic show along with Crosby,
Stills, Nash and Young, Willie Nelson, Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, Wilco,
Dashboard Confessional, and others. The band debuted the song; "Talk
Shows on Mute" during this acoustic event.
By December the new album, produced by Brendan O'Brien
(Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Papa Roach, Train), was complete,
and scheduled for release. The new album will be an enhanced CD with
behind the scenes video, and was to be titled; "A Crow Left of The Murder."
Mike and Brandon discussed the new songs; Mike describes them as "Like
the old shit, but older. It's very different. It's very energetic and
fast, and a lot of it is more technical, I guess maybe in the vein of
more of our older songs...they don't sound like our older songs, but
they are more, uh, Exploratory." On December 15th, the first single
from the upcoming album was released; "Megalomaniac," and began receiving
radio play, with a video to soon follow.
On February 3rd, 2004, Incubus' fifth
album dropped, titled:"A Crow Left of The Murder."
Following the release of ACLOTM, Incubus went on an extensive
World and US
Tour. Prior to their departure to Japan in February
2004, they performed a "Secret" concert at the
Sony Picture Studios in Culver City, California. Incubus
finally returned home in November 2005.
On December 12, 2005, Incubus performed at the famous KROQ
Almost Acoustic Christmas at the Universal Amphitheater.
